JIMMY JONES
"It's not unusual for me to see and know everybody's
name after a Cub game."
In Chicago, who you are is where you're from. North
Side, South Side, Rogers Park, Gage Park: people know
you by your neighborhood. Jimmy Jones was reared in
Lakeview in the not-so distant past when factory workers
raised families there. In 1984 Jimmy embraced a dream
when he took the old hood's new nickname and opened
"The Wrigleyville Tap", a phone-booth popup
from his boyhood home and a loud foul from Wrigley
Field. In addition to brewskies, Jimmy dispensed the
warmth that made his place one of our endangered species:
a
neighborhood tavern in a world of theme bars. Could
a joint like that last for very long?
